As part of its outreach agenda, Tegemeo Institute usually participates in various local and international workshops, seminars and conferences. During these events, Tegemeo further shares findings with stakeholders on research and analysis findings conducted.

This year the Institute participated in the 29th International Association of Agricultural Economist (IAAE) conference that was held from 8th to 14th August 2015 in Milan, Italy. In this conference, staff members who represented the Institute presented the following papers:

1. Do Supermarkets Contribute to the Obesity Pandemic in Developing Countries? by Dr Simon Kimenju

2. Agricultural Commercialization and Household Food Security: The case of smallholders in Great Lakes Region of Central Africa by Dr Justus Ochieng’

3. Role of Access to Credit in Rice Production in Sub Saharan Africa: The case of Mwea Irrigation Scheme in Kenya by Dr Tim Njagi

The Conference whose theme was “Agriculture in an Interconnected World” focus was on the way which improved access to information has greatly affected the performance of markets in many rural areas, especially markets for perishable products; the emergence of money transfer and payment mechanisms which has potentially enormous implications for access to finance and payment, with options for a huge population of people currently without access to banks and intended to capture the widespread adoption of new communication technologies.
