The institute team joins the MLE Week participants for a photo session

Tegemeo Institute’s Monitoring Learning and Evaluation (MLE) Unit participated in the National Monitoring and Evaluation week held recently in Nairobi Kenya. The Institute’s team introduced and held training on use of software such as ODK, SurveyCTO and Survey Monkey that is used in the course of its work.

Participants were given a talk on key essentials of the Monitoring Learning and Evaluation activities undertaken by the Institute and in addition, the team also demonstrated the application of ICT-enabled data collection and data aggregation including how to code a questionnaire. The presentations made included the essentials, preparation to use Computer Aided Personal Interviewing (CAPI), time frames for collection using the software, decision whether to use in-house or to outsource, the advantages and disadvantages of each for instance in cost and time saving among others.

Dr. Mercy Kamau the MLE Unit Director said that Tegemeo Institute has been undertaking monitoring and evaluation for various development agencies including the government of Kenya and further demonstrated how this evaluative agenda complements and draws strengths from the Institute’s core business of Policy Research. She also pointed out that there are plans of the Institute to strengthen MLE services going forward.

The objective was to promote and create awareness of Tegemeo Institute amongst MLE stakeholders as well as to share knowledge and show case ICT enabled data collection and aggregation as used by the institute.The event was organized by the Ministry of Devolution and Planning and the Evaluation Society of Kenya (ESK) with a theme dubbed “Using evaluations for decision making towards sustainable development”
