Evolution of GMO Policy in Kenya

Tegemeo Institute’s Senior Research Fellow, Dr. Mercy Kamau gave a key note speech at the 73rd OFAB event held 28 November, 2013.

The presentation was based on her recently published paper dubbed “Advances in Kenya’s Policy on GMOs and its Effects on Food Security”. Dr. Kamau highlighted on challenges facing the biotechnology sector in Kenya especially in light of the current ban on GM foods importation.

The Open Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology (OFAB) in Africa is a platform that provides an opportunity for key agricultural biotechnology stakeholders to share knowledge and explore innovative ways of sustainably bringing the benefits of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) to the African agricultural sector.

The OFAB Kenya chapter is jointly coordinated by the International Service for Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA), AfriCenter and the African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF).
